In the fourth video of the BodyPass interviews series, we speak with Josep Redón, professor of Medicine in the Medical School of the University of Valencia, head of the Internal Medicine Department of the Hospital Clínico Universitario in Valencia, and the head of the Cardiorenal Research in the INCLIVA Health Research Institute.
INCLIVA was incorporated in 2000 and accredited in 2011 as a Health Research Institute by the Carlos III Health Institute, the brand of research in medicine and health of the Spanish Government. INCLIVA manages biomedical research carried out by the Hospital Clínico Universitario in Valencia and its Health Department, as well as certain scientific excellence groups from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Valencia and IGENOMIX Foundation. The Institute currently has over 400 researchers of recognized prestige in the international scientific community and invests in first-grade technology in order to conduct high-quality research.
The role of INCLIVA in the BodyPass project is related to the better assessment of the cardiometabolic risk, a condition in which fat is accumulated in territories where usually the amount of fat should be small such as the mesenteric territory, the liver, the kidney, the muscles and also the pericardium. Currently, assessment is not precise since the methods used in the clinic are only the body mass index calculation or the assessment of the abdominal perimeter.
Learn in this interview with Dr. Prof. Josep Redón how this challenge is being addressed and what are the benefits for the endocrinologists and patients thanks to the methods and techniques used in BodyPass.
